About Heart, Body, & Soul

Our doors opened in October 2015 — but in case you haven’t made it by yet, allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Heart, Body, & Soul — Mid-MO’s one-stop shop for centered, conscious living. Playful and welcoming, powerful and inspiring – this is a place about being true and becoming whole…and having fun along the way.

Here you will find kindred souls and resources for your individual spiritual journey — whatever path or tradition that may be. (And if you’re a spiritual seeker interested in exploring different paths and traditions, you’ll find plenty here to explore!) In 2026, Brandi and Kevin were crazy enough to buy the shop from 2 amazing ladies, Cat & Deb. See below for the insanity that helped the store stay alive.

Staff Profiles

Brandi French, Store Owner/The Boss, &
Kevin Blount, Underpaid Minion/Boss's Husband

Brandi and Kevin were privileged (again, crazy enough?) to buy the shop from 2 marvelous ladies who built a great place to buy spiritual stuff and foster a true sense of community. Brandi can't blame too much on her mother over the years, but for this, she and Kevin will! Brandi took Mom to the shop on a Thanksgiving visit and learned it was closing at the New Year. Mom suggested instantly, "Why don't you buy it?" When Brandi got home, Kevin asked if she had bought 'all the books', and Brandi grinned sheepishly. A whirlwind of activity later, with a pace that had to be aided by magic, Brandi and Kevin closed the deal on New Year's Eve with one month to remodel and restock.

The shop reopened poignantly at Imbolc. Heart, Body, & Soul will always be a fun place to shop, but Brandi and Kevin bought it for so much more: this is a unique place in our community that focuses on the broader spiritual practice and serves as a safe gathering space where we share laugh and learn whether it is Saturday's coffee and conversation or revitalizing Sacred Sunday (🤞) services or even just putting on a class about how to make incense, or what is astrology?

Anything you can dream of, we are here for!

Michelle McBrien, Store Manager & Executive Goddess

Michelle has the most varied resume on our staff: studying improv at iO Theater and Second City, teaching English as a second language in Japan, a virtual and in-person executive assistant, and, of course, a continually sought-after doggie-treat provider. (It’s surprising just how much that skillset fits the need here, including the pet-wrangling. Go figure.) Michelle is another one who helped us out part-time when she wasn’t working her day job… until we piled so much on her that the day job had to bite the dust.

She is our full-time store manager "a.k.a. Executive Goddess", as well as photographer and ad creator, and website and social media overseer (so if you find a screw-up there, blame Michelle, rather than Kevin, who probably caused it). And of course, she is and shall forever remain the personal agent and assistant to Merlin, who used to be the shop cat until he decided to just move in with her and put her to work maintaining his and his sister’s social media profiles. Philana Crite, Inventory Specialist & Mentor

Philana, our Inventory Specialist, is a transplant from the lovely state of Ohio and a die-hard Cleveland Browns fan (who does NOT want your pity, thank you very much!), Philana hails from a long line of military folk and is an Air Force veteran herself. When Deb & Cat learned she had worked at the House of Ravenswood, (a delightful metaphysical shop in Yellow Springs, OH they’d discovered on their travels east just a month or so before Philana discovered HBS), it was too synchronous to ignore so they snagged her into the HBS family before she had time to have second thoughts. Of course, Philana slipped in as if she’d always been here. Philana’s a natural teacher and insatiable learner — as customers are quick to find out! Pro Tip: Philana loves dark chocolate haystacks, but then don’t we all?

Marie Carney, Design Diva & Stone Maven

Marie is our resident Design Diva (a way more fun title than ‘Visual Merchandiser’) — but titles aside, if you like the creative product presentations and displays at HBS, you can probably thank Marie. Marie has been with us from the beginning of HBS — as Deb’s daughter (Deb was one of the shop's founders), she got roped in before we’d even opened our doors! No wonder she feels at home here! In addition to helping find fun products and creating lovely displays, Marie is also a gifted reader of auras and a natural at feeling the energy of the various crystals and metals. Whenever we’re not quite sure what something is, we tend to hand it off to her as our ‘human tester.’

Angeline Van Curen, Tea Creatrix

Angeline is a seasoned herbalist and tea artisan who has been crafting organic blends for health and relaxation since 2000. Known as the “Tea Creatrix”, she hosts a free monthly tea gathering to share knowledge and inspire others to explore the benefits of loose-leaf teas. Alongside a 30+ year career as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, she nurtures a deep passion for natural healing, weaving together herbs, crystals, and candle magic in her spiritual practice. In her quiet moments, she finds joy in animals, especially cats and horses, gardening, baking, and meaningful conversations about dreams and the soul’s unfolding path.
